In the House of Fire with Avaz-e-Eshgh
Sand, chalk, 3-channel video installation,  duration 15:00 min.
In the House of Fire with Avaz-e-Eshgh juxtaposes the spiritual journey of Avaz-e-Eshgh, a Facebook page built by an Iranian woman practicing mysticism in Toronto. This digital landscape is generated through divination that imagines the future of female prophecy. We enter the first, fifth and ninth doors of Ilm-al-Raml divination through this series, made out of the fire, following the narration by Avaz-e-Eshgh. By reviving the 7th-century Islamic method of divination, the science of sand, this project builds on narrative possibilities generated through divination. It decolonizes the linear narration of time by blurring the line between present, past and future. Viewers are invited to immerse themselves in the digital landscape through the three-channel video installation.
